HISTORY

On November 15, 2014, the 2013 DAYL Leadership Class hosted the first DAYL Charity Ball, paving the way for the DAYL Charity Ball to develop into a premier charitable event benefiting noteworthy causes. That first year, the DAYL Charity Ball raised over $50,000 for Habitat for Humanity and EPIC.  Recognizing the incredible potential of the DAYL Charity Ball and the impact it could have on future generations, the DAYL Charity Ball became an annual event of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers.

In 2016, after much thought, the DAYL Charity Ball Committee changed the beneficiary, making the DAYL Foundation the new beneficiary. This decision came after analyzing the growing needs of the local community and the struggle many individuals experience to obtain legal aid, legal education, and justice-related necessities, causes which the DAYL Foundation supports through its grants program. The DAYL Charity Ball has since raised over $60,000 for the DAYL Foundation.

In 2017, the DAYL tragically lost Alex Bolton, the then-Secretary of DAYL and the Charity Ball Event Chair for 2016 and 2017. Alex was a tireless advocate for many causes and was an incredible friend to people involved in the Dallas legal community.  The DAYL Charity Ball is one of Alex’s legacies, and he dedicated so much of himself to champion this event into becoming the success it is today.

In 2018, the Committee voted to change the name of the DAYL Charity Ball to the DAYL Bolton Ball, in memory of Alex Bolton. The name change is effective beginning in 2019.
